We welcome to Cork our Piano and Woodwind Adjudicator Mr. Philip Dewhurst, BA Hons, PGCE, FISM.

Philip Dewhurst was born and educated in Bolton, Lancashire.  He read music at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne under Professor Denis Matthews and specialised in performance on the oboe studying with several eminent oboists including Eric Fletcher, Bernard O’Keefe & Roger Winfield. After finishing his degree, Philip completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education and then pursued a career as a teacher working in several prestigious independent schools in the North West of England

 

When his teaching commitments permit, Philip enjoys playing orchestral and chamber music on a freelance basis. He has a passion for conducting and has led and directed, orchestras, choirs & choral societies throughout his career as well as being musical director for numerous stage shows.

 

As well as being in demand to adjudicate at festivals around the UK and abroad, Philip is an examiner for Trinity College London and an experienced GCSE and A level examiner and moderator. More recently Philip retired as Director of Music at Cheadle Hulme School, Cheshire.
